Today reminds me of all the times we had to prepare for Hurricane conditions when we were in the repossession business.
Reality and Insurance risk dictates that as a repo company…
A. Get as many vehicles as possible off the lot.
B. Stop picking up cars!
C. Don’t leave cars under trees.
This list goes on and on – but when we were in business all this trumped personal preparation. It was so consuming. Because a major claim during a storm can devastate business for years.
Back in the late 80s and 90s we never really considered not picking up vehicles before and after a storm. I remember one year the wife and I went over the Gandy Bridge into south Pinellas County and grabbed a skip vehicle. Waves were crashing against the shore on the approach and into the traffic lanes.
These days client are closing all assignments – sometimes for weeks and months after a disaster. Image what that would do to the bottom line.
At any rate. Let’s send positive thoughts and prayers out to all the people in the path of this storm. And especially to those working in this business that don’t have the benefit of the peace of mind that comes with retirement.
