Capital Adjusters, Inc. was founded in 1975 in Austin, Texas by Scott Gregory. The current owner and President, Russ DeWitt, started working here in 1976. In 1989 he bought the company and took over its management.

Since it’s inception, Capital Adjusters has been at the forefront of the repossession industry in Austin. We were the first company in Austin to use the “Illusion” hideaway wrecker systems in the 1980’s. Today our fleet uses the most up to date Jerr-Dan “Element” Self Loading Wheel Lifts which pick up vehicles by the wheels, never touching the body of the unit for completely damage-free towing.

Capital Adjusters was the first company in Austin to become a member of National Finance Adjusters (NFA) and then The American Recovery Association (ARA). Russ DeWitt served on the Board of Directors of NFA for 6 years and is a Past President of that association. We were also one of the first companies to use the RDN repossession software program, which is the the program we use today to manage our day to day operations. We also use IRepo, CARS, Webtracker, RecoveryIMS, NAMS and Scorenet to stay in direct electronic communication with our clients.

In keeping with being an industry leader, in 2009 Capital Adjusters partnered with OPENLANE® online dealer auction to provide our clients with a fast, easy and profitable way for them to liquidate their repossessed vehicles. With our new Remarketing Department we can now receive an account, repossess the vehicle, sell it online (right from our storage lot) and cut a check for the proceeds within 1-5 days after the debtor redemption period has expired.
